TA rules for Central Government Employees

Can anyone help me in understanding/ interpreting the TA rules for Central Government Employees??

Mileage allowance for journey by road - at places where specific rates are prescribed:

One of the entitlement for pay level 14 and above says

At prescribed rates of AC taxi when the journey is actually performed by AC taxi.

At prescribed rates for Autorickshaw for journey by auto rickshaw, own car, scooter, motor cycle etc.

This section is not clear for me.

The entitlement for pay level 6 says
Same as level 14 and above with an exception that journey by AC is not permissible

My understanding on this is that the employee 6-13 are eligible to travel by non AC taxi.

Please help..

Hi Durga Vanisri,

Your understanding is mostly correct! Here’s a clearer explanation of the TA (Travel Allowance) rules for Central Government employees regarding road travel/mileage allowance based on pay levels:

For Pay Level 14 and Above:

  • If the journey is performed by AC taxi, reimbursement will be at the prescribed rates for AC taxi.

  • If the journey is by autorickshaw, own car, scooter, motorcycle, etc., reimbursement will be at the prescribed rates for those modes.

This means that officers in pay level 14 and above can claim TA for AC taxi fares if actually traveled by AC taxi, or for other vehicles as applicable.

For Pay Level 6 to 13:

  • The rule says same as level 14 and above except journey by AC taxi is NOT permissible.

  • So, employees in pay levels 6 to 13 cannot claim TA for AC taxi journeys.

  • However, they can claim TA for journeys by non-AC taxi, autorickshaw, own car, scooter, motorcycle, etc., at the prescribed rates.

Summary:

Pay Level Eligible Vehicles for TA Reimbursement
14 and above AC Taxi (at prescribed AC rates), Auto, Own vehicle
6 to 13 Non-AC Taxi, Auto, Own vehicle (AC taxi NOT allowed)

Note:

  • These rules apply only when the journey is actually performed by the specified mode of transport.

  • The rates for different vehicles (AC taxi, non-AC taxi, autorickshaw, own vehicles) are fixed by the government and differ based on city classification and distance.
