In service tax is it mandatory that 'Tax Invoice' be written at the top of the bill. I have an invoice saying 'Abstract' at the top of it. The amount of services and the service tax charged on it is shown separately under respective headings. Will it be allowed unlike VAT bills? In VAT its compulsory that tax invoice is to be written on the top of every VAT invoice.

To write as "Tax Invoice" is not mendatory" in terms of Rule 4A of STR'1994. Howeever invoice should be serially numbered, contain Name & Address of Service provider & Receiver, ST REgn No. of Service Provider, Descripttion and value of Service and service tax amount.(Some exception for specified service)
