I WANT TO KNOW HOW THE RETAILER WILL SEND BACK HIS DEFECTED ITEM BACK TO WHOLESELLER WITH EWAY BILL AND DO WE HAVE TO ISSUE TAX INVOICE AGAINST HIM OR A DEBIT NOTE ?

Yes, eway bill required to be generated using Debit note.

AS YOU WILL NOT FOUND THE DOUMENT DEBIT NOTE ON EWAY PORTAL
SO GENENRATE EWAY BY SELECTING OPTION DOUMENT TYPE "OTHERS"
You can select option " supply" for generating eway bill using debit note.
