Regarding double taxation query(india and japan)

405 views 1 replies

I am a software professional and
was in Japan from 08/10/2009 to 28/06/2010
continuously and got salary half from india and another half from japan.

My company deducted 20% tax as non-residence tax from japan salary and paid to japan government.
and also deducted the income tax from indian salary and paid to indian government.

but i got notice from income tax department regarding to submit docuemnts for earningsboth india and japan.

Please suggest me and provide the solution.

whether i should pay tax for the periods 2009-2010 and 2010-2011
which i earned in japan during that periods?

No. As per DTAA between Japan And India, you will get the credit of the taxes paid in Japan and hence you just need to inform the IT Dept that your taxes were deducted in Japan and paid there only.
