Question on residency status calculation

Tax queries 264 views 3 replies

My husband was in india from 1-Apr-2016 to 29-Sept-2016. He travelled to UK on 29-Sept-2016 at 1.40 AM. So he was india for 181 days + 1.4 hours. Will he be considered as NRI or resident for filing tax ?

Dear madam,

For the purpose of calculating period of stay in India, the day of arrival as well as the day of departure are counted. So in your case it will come to 182 days. So he will be considered resident in India.

Yes I agreed to Mr Prakyath Shetty...
@ Prakyath very well reply. I appreciate you...

It is calculated 182 days in India. So, FY 16-17 he is considered as resident....
Thank you for your appreciation sir... @ Raja P M
