Quarter reports prepared for 3 months or cumulative periods?

Hi,

   Can anybody explain exactly the Quarter reports(Balance sheet,Cash flow and income statements) prepared for 3 months or cumulative periods?

i mean 

Q1 :- 3 Months

Q2 :- 3 Months

Q3 :- 3 Months

Q4 :- 3 Months

or 

Q1 :- 3 Months

Q2 :- 6 Months

Q3 :- 9 Months

Q4 :- 12 Months

As the title says quartely reports are for the respective quarters, not cumulative.
