Frns i know one thing that we should be prepared from now onwards for exam...jitni aadtein banani hai handwriting and other things ki abhi se kar lo...but tell me one thing i have a habit of doing rough and messed up calculations in my rough register;also i dont draw lines by scale in my rough rgstr,'i draw by my hands, dont give working notes and do my all calculations roughly, messed up every thing..you can say that sometimes i do 2 questions on one page if space is available on one page....but in exam i hv in my mind that i hv to attend all questions very smartly and fairly so i have in my mind in all exams and i dont do any mistake in drawing lines by scale and i write each and every thing in full form, nice and tidy in exam....bt just tell me one thing in exam waisa i dont do any mistake but should i go on with my habit of writing in short forms and drawing by hands OR should i write in full, neat and clean, full working notes as we give in exam so that i dont have to specially focus on such things in exam?

Balance between Examination condition and practical approach is something you need to look holistically and work on it.

It may be pertinent to remember that doing things in a systematic manner is to impress upon the End user of your work. If, the Examiner finds your working notes written in an orderly manner, he / she might award you better marks. However, in case your workings are scattered and looks clumsy it may put off the examiner to check your workings. It is like, why should he / she bother, if you litter the answer book by your haphazard writings, he will simply skip that portion.

Now look at a practical situation, whereby, an audit which was assigned to you, was taken up by a colleague of yours due to some emergency at your end. If you had all the observations / remarks written in a lucid and systematic manner at one place, it becomes easier for your colleague to get started from where you left.

Working notes provides an inherent insight into one’s thinking and application of mind, and if done in an orderly fashion it would reduce the risk of confusion. It may also aid others to continue the work where you have left, in case someone else has to continue your work. This may reduce the ordeal of re-doing or reworking the entire stuff by your replacement at later point in time.

Always, look at things from the end user's point of view. Any notes, whether systematic or unsystematic which is for your self- consumption or later reference can be used as per your wish list. However, organized form of doing things is much appreciated by most.

i can understand you Ekta.  Its quite difficult to maintain neatness and good presentation during exam, because we generally face shortage of time. Its important to have a legible presentation than a clean and tidy presentation, but ya, clean and tidy presentation also matters, and see that you dont mess up things, but be systematic. And you need not draw lines at all.  Better use lot of spaces between answers or different workings to differentiate one thing from other.  Start a new question in a new page mentioning a fairly visible "PTO" terms in the previous page.  See that the rough workings and the main answer are differentiated properly with proper headings.  Try to maintain all the workings together. That would do.

Hey Ekta...

I would suggest u to do only a single sum everyday by neat & lucid manner showing all the calculations & working notes in the proper manner & all other sums in the way u usually solve.

Through this u will be able to know of how working notes in the exams should look like, how much time it will take, which working note can be avoided & how best the answer can be presented & the most imp thing that u will be able to save time in ur regular preparation as well.
