A student can take leave of any time without informing ICAI and his /her articleship shall be extended accordingly as per rules and there is a special form on ICAI website regarding death of CA. A student is requred to send that form to ICAI and then he  / she can take break for any period. It is not necessary to do continuous articleship. A Student is required only to complete 3.5 years anytime in life with any breaks for any months and for any reason.
