Hello, an NRI with only interest income in India, can he file ITR1? or by rule NRI has to use ITR2 only by default irrespective of any income type?

I dont think that rule 12 of the income tax rules has prescribed any such condition that NRI has to file ITR 2 only.
Its as per the income and the status of assessee.
Because I have seen many CA and people filing exclusively ITR2 for NRI, residents just for interest income, I dont understand the logic behid this. Why to fill lengthy form unnecessariy and keep all colums blank just fill OS, the same can be done in ITR1 and be simple. Thanx anyways Z.
