While using the excel based software [available on the official website of IT deptt] for online filing of ITR; when one goes to the column on TDS [other than salaries- i.e 16A]; software guides you to enter a unique 8 character TDS certificate number. Whereas I understand that the TDS certificate [under 16A] carries only a 6 character certificate number... Is it a bug/mistake in the software ? or is it that one has to fill not the 6 digit tds certificate number but the 8 character tds receipt number.

We Don't need to write that 6 or 8 Digit (as per IT software required) because coulmn number 4 and 5 are in black colour and are not mendatory as red colour is

IT department had rolled out those ITR 2 and ITR3 back, they will update and will launch again :)
Thanks VK. I agree, the best course would be to ignore the optional black fields with confusion .
The error is found in ITR1 and ITR4 too. I hope IT deptt rectifies the error
