Quick Summary
This discussion addresses whether a 76-year-old individual receiving pension and fixed deposit interest needs to file an income tax return for the financial year 2022-23. It clarifies that if his gross total income is less than £3 lakh, filing may not be necessary. However, if the income exceeds this threshold, or if he hasn't filed a TDS declaration with the bank under Section 194P, an income tax return should be filed.

Whether he had filed declaration with the bank for deduction of TDS as per IT act?

If yes, he need not file return as specified in sec. 194P of IT act.

If the gti less than 3 lack then no need to file itr, or if its more than 3 lack irrespective of tds deduction all 15h compliance he should file itr.
