Greetings,

I am a freelance content writer. I work on websites like freelancer.com, iwriter.com and others.I am paid for my services via these websites who deposit funds directly into my bank accounts. I also have few clients who send me work via email and pay me via NEFT.

My annual income is close to 6 Lakhs. I do not have any company registered. Do i have to register for GST. If yes than what all documents will i need?

yes u have to register. even the websites paying u will deduct tcs from your payment. u have to apply freshly which would applicable after 01/07/2017. for registration paper requirement do contact a gst consultant

For Preeti: If the limit is Rs.20 Lakhs, then why does Gargi Patki has to register as her annual turnover is 6 lakhs. Please explain.

Where does a freelancer register himself/herself for gst - client location(State) or his/her location(State)?

On which website, does a freelancer register ?

dear bharat if u r working through eco then u have to mandatorily register under gst.without any turnover limit. he will register his place of working as registered place at gstn

Hi Preeti

To what I have googled, GST mandatory registration lists Ecommerce Operator (which is like Amazon, Flipkart), not exactly someone who is selling his or her own things online. That means Gargi, doesnt fall under this.

The only place where I am confused is, whether he is selling Inter state or Intra State. I am not sure, how can someone differentiate in his case ?

Appreciate if you can guide on this part.

dear girish jiplz refer sec 24 point (ix) of cgst act for ur reference.

As per Section 24(ix) of the CGST Act, 2017, every person supplying goods through an ecommerce operator shall be mandatorily required to register irrespective of the value of supply made by him. However, a person supplying services, other than supplier of services under section 9 (5) of the CGST Act, 2017, through an e-commerce platform are exempted from obtaining compulsory registration provided their aggregate turnover does not exceed INR 20 lakhs (or INR 10 lakhs in case of specified special category States) in a financial year. Government has issued the notification No. 65/2017 – Central Tax dated 15th November, 2017 in this regard.
