HRA EXEMPTION 2022-23

Quick Summary
This discussion explores how to claim House Rent Allowance (HRA) exemption for the 2022-23 financial year, particularly for individuals paying rent in cash without receipts. While official advice stresses the need for proof like rent receipts or agreements, some suggest it's a common practice to claim HRA without them, especially for smaller amounts, with the understanding that scrutiny might later require evidence. Alternatives like Section 80GG deductions are also mentioned if HRA cannot be claimed.

We have to but if we did not have proof then we also claim.
Each and every head of income and deductions should be supported by evidence.

It's very wrong to file ITR as per our wish
No one care for your wish.

Querist want solution not your lecture.

I already told that, we have proofs with us but even if it is not available you can claim so.

So just let the person decide what he want to .
ITR filing should not be as per your wish and it should as per evidence available.
Agreed but here case is different and we are only providing solution
Being CA you are giving wrong advice to file ITR without proof of rent . That shows
I m saying rent receipt required but exemption claimed without proof and later on he asked for receipts again

It's a general practice to claim exemption of HRA even though the landlord has provided no receipt for rent.  The HRA exemption amount is small, so this much risk can be taken.

Being professionals, you must collect the proof though it is not required to upload instantly on income tax portal
