HRA claim tax benefit

Tax queries 168 views 6 replies

Hello,

I have a query. One of my friend has a flat and his spouse is the co-owner of that flat.

Now, he wants to give rent money of this flat to his wife who is homemaker. Can he get the tax benefit in HRA?

Regards,

Rahul

But how you can justify that husband is living in wife's share of house. Same is not justifiable, hence no benefit of HRA available.

Also if person has house property in his name and residing at that place, he can't claim HRA benefit.
It's difficult to get a benefit. A co-owner cannot claim tax benefit.
IT Dept is working on HRA related . Many people may get notices for claiming wrong HRA.

Do not take risk to avoid 300% penalty

Thanks everyone for your guidance.
