HOW TO ADD BANK ACCOUNT FOR A NON RESIDENT

Quick Summary
NRIs without Aadhaar faced issues adding bank accounts on the Income Tax portal due to e-verification errors and "Access Denied" messages. Users found a workaround by filing ITR offline via Excel utility, uploading JSON, and validating bank accounts during e-verification.

Hello Sir

I have a similar "access denied" issue linking my bank account and I am an NRI ithour aadhaar card. My autitor already files the returns. I am trying to e verify which is stuck due to issue in adding my bank account. It always takes me to everify (which has access denied issue) instead of updating the bank account details. Looks like I am stuck.

How do I add th ebank account off line if I already submitted the returns.

Did your auditor file the return with your bank account details?   In my case he did it.   As well as I had TDS from three banks and my Auditor put all 3 banks in the the filing and they were available in the portal a day after filing.

My auditor did not add my bank account when he filed. What are my options to get my bank account added? How do i overcome the below access denied issue?

After logging in to the portal, navigating to the Add bank account option, and entering all the necessary details such as account number, type of account, IFSC code etc,
it only takes me to e verify step. I selected the option of net banking and after being logged in to net banking and clicked the option of income tax efiling and clicking confirm to the PAN and other personal details, the web page is being redirected to " Access Denied " on the Income Tax Portal.
My Bank account and PAN has been linked. Being an NRI, I do not have an aadhaar card number and does not have a DSC or demat account.
I am Stuck.

Hello there

A possible solution would be to file a revised return through offline mode , where the income details have to be filled in using the offline utility and as for the bank details which can be manually typed in . After calculating tax and validation , upload the json file and for  everification, "my bank account" option can be utilised and ITR can be filed.

This was exactly my problem to start with and unfortunately opening a grievance etc. on the portal did not help at all.   I would try and refile with the bank account and see if it helps.

NRI bank account verification on the income tax portal is a known friction point for AY 2025-26 filing. The portal validates NRI accounts using the IFSC plus account number, and if the bank has not updated the NRI flag in NSDL records, the verification fails with a generic error. You can still proceed by using the account for refund credit and choosing the net banking e-verification route (through your NRI bank login) rather than the OTP or bank account validation path. Getting your bank to mark the account as NRI-linked in their CBS system is the permanent fix, which typically takes 3 to 5 working days after a written request.
