i also agreed withthis public holidays and sundays should be excluded while calculation....

yes

Final Verdict, ICAI (as to my knowledge) guides its members to grant 1/6th period of articleship, 15/08, 26/01 as holidays.

Moreover, major festivals like DIWALI, HOLI, EID, RAKSHABANDHAN should be allowed, but i don't know anyhting abt that.

sunday is not taken has count

No, i dont know that ICAI specified or not for it, but these are national holiday and it is the right of every indian. And if  your principle not gives you leave for 15 aug, 26 Jan, & 2 Oct etc. than it is ilegal. and it is against the constitution. I think you sttisfied with my reply, please reply.........

180 days if 3.5 years articles and 156 if 3 years.....

The Auditor should give leave to his audit clerks on all holidays as declared by the negotiable instrument act of that state where his office is situated.  As per negotiable instruments act certain holidays are compulsory and certian holdidays are optional. The optional are specfically religion based holidays which will be decided by the pricipal of the organisation.
