One of my client's turnover is less than rs. 20 lakhs and he wants to supply to some government departments but they used to buy from registered dealers under GST, that is why, he wants to get GSTIN but my question is that if he gets his GSTIN on or after 31 Aug then he has to file GSTR 3B and GSTR 1 for Jul and Aug'17 or not???

GSTR 1 FOR AUGUST SHOULD BE FILLED BY THE ASSESSEE.GSTR 3B IS IMPORTANT TO FILE TO TAKE ITC,IF ANY

you mean to say his registration is received in the month of Aug that is why he has to file return from aug and there is no need to file any return for Jul 17.), am I correct???

No if its after 31st august then no need to file 3B

bhavik, he has not to pay all the required returns under GST for Aug 17 if he gets registration after 31 Aug

I mean to say if someone gets GSTIN 1 sep(voluntary) then he has not to file any return for Jul and Aug 17. am I correct??

ya bcz on gst certificate in which month its effective would be mentioned and has to be filed accordingly

If he registers himself after August voluntarily, then there willnot be any need to give details of previous months under GST.

If he registered after 31Aug den No need to file GSTR3B, GSTR1, GSTR2, GSTR3, for the month of July and august
