GST for freelancer working from home

Hello!

I'm a full time freelancer working from home. I'm into digital marketing and my clients are based outside of India. I don't have a registered company and I like this style of working. I contacted a few CAs regarding registration of GST and they all said that for GST, a registered company and office location is required. They said a GST personnel will visit my house and reject my application if I don't have an office location. I don't see why I need to register a company and get into the trouble of finding and paying rent for an additional premises that I'm not even going to use?

I wanted to know if there is any way to register for GST for a freelancer like me.

Also, is the threshold of registration 20lakhs/annum or 40lakhs/annum? Some say it's 20 and others say its 40.

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

If it is your own house, you can allocate one or two rooms for your office work, and can get GST registration.

For services the GST registration limit is 20 lakhs,

while for supply of goods its 40 lakhs..

Thank you for your response and clarification regarding the limits. And no, it's not my own home. I'm in a rented house.

Why is it necessary in this age of 'work from home' for a freelancer to have a place of business?

Also, would you say there is any other alternative to this? Is virtual address an option?

PS: I would be more than happy to pay for any help in this regard. Please send me a message.

You need to get NOC from your house owner for carrying the business activity... along with rental agreeement copyof light bill etc...

Check if CA Doshi can help you further...
