Exemption and exemption surrender related query

My friend had given the November 2011 exam for PCC. Unfortunately, he did not clear his exams but was able to secure exemption in Accounts in the First Group and in Costing/FM and Taxation in the Second Group. However, he is confused regarding exemption rules and he has heard somewhere that he will be required to surrender exemptions relating to either one group as he cannot hold exemption in both groups. I am unaware of such a rule and I was wondering whether anyone could clarify on the matter. Links are highly appreciated. Thanks in Advance. :)
