Preferably in Pune. the thing is i dont know any Firms there and im confused whether to opt for Big 4 firms , if not that then which one? is it a wise decision to leave my family firm and go for a firm outside my home town? im really confused as to what is the best thing for me. Dear Dhwani,

Both the experiences are different altogether. In a Big 4 firm, you will get corporate exposure, sophisticated working environment, you ll get to see offices of MNCs, big listed companies etc., which is also a good exposure. But then, the problem with Big 4 is, that somewhere your scope of learning may get restricted. In the sense that, the clients are so huge that, you will get to handle only one area say audit. Thus, you may not even file a single ITR in the whole of 3 years. The other advantage in a Big 4 is, that you have a chance to get absorbed in that firm itself.

Whereas, in a small firm, the learning is great. Also, if you are with your dad, he can put you on to all the areas turn by turn, which may not be so with a normal article.

And, if you want to join a Big 4, why  go to Pune…and why not come to a bigger city like Mumbai, wherein they can put you to a bigger corporate client...the exposure will be totally different in Mumbai

Infact, here in Mumbai you can also opt for firms like Aneja etc, which specialize in Internal and Process audits

Sir,

i have done my IPCC classes in pune so i know a little bit about pune. Even if i consider Bombay , the question is where? i have herd that in all the big firms they only make us audit. Im having a tough time deciding what to do.

You can search CA FIRMS of your choice..

Dhwani, that is what I am saying, that the scope of work will be too restricted in a Big 4. But then, as I said, you will get exposure to bigger corporates, ERP systems. Also, you will get to work on documentation, which is not so much of an important area in the smaller firms.

Here, you can approach firms apart from Big 4,  firms such as Haribhakti & Co., Aneja Associates, Khimji Kunverji, Chaturvedi & Shah.

I suggest, go for a mid-size firm, wherein, you can enjoy best of both the worlds.

If you want any help, let me know

Thank you so much... I think i will go for a mid sized firm. Will start searching for firms soon. Really thankfull to you.
