While the Central Government provided a five-year compensation mechanism for States, it did not provide a similar guarantee for local authorities. Compensation for local bodies is a state-specific matter; some states (like Maharashtra) enacted their own laws to protect local authority revenue, while others rely on state grants or other fiscal transfers to bridge the gap.
