Change of Status of Applicant in PAN

Dear Sir,

We have two pan cards issued to the Society. The 1st pan card issued and was misplaced and found recently whilst clearance of documents. We were using the 2nd one issued number which was applied and received later.

Recently, the bank whilst doing the KYC have pointed out that the pan no being used by us i.e. 1st PAN has the 4th character as a FIRM and not for as Society, they have now send an intimation that they will freeze the account, hence we are thinking of closing the account. Similarly, we were opening an account with SBI and they have also pointed on the pan card issue prior to KYC. In case of Society the 4th letter should be A which stands for association which corresponds with our pan no which has been allotted to us earlier and never used by us.

Please advise and suggest us an appropriate resolution for change of 4th Character of Firm to Society and thereafter the 2nd PAN will be surrendered.
