Hi,

I bought 2000 shares of NMDC in June 2024. The company issued 4000 bonus shares to me in Dec 2024. I sold all 6000 shares in July 2025 for a total loss of 57,400.

However, because of how bonus shares are treated (0 acquisition cost and acquisition date is record date), that loss will instead be treated as a LTCL of 332,200 and a STCG of 274,800.

Since LTCL cannot be set off against STCG, I will have to pay 20% STCG which is about 55K.

I mostly do short term trading only. I dont have any LTCG to set off against last year or even this year. So what is the best way to manage this?

I will specially have to trade long term and make a LTCG of about 4.6 lacs to set this off and even then I will only get back about 41K in taxes. It doesnt sound rational.
