Well ya you can do it. There a provision of Secondment of articleship from one employers to another. You can register at one firm and ask the employer to second you to some other employer. However, it's totally upon the employer if he wants to second you to some other employer or not. So, its better you ask him beforehand. Also you can find the form for secondment of articleship on the institute's website in form section.

Any other route will be termed as dummy in my opinion.

U CAN DO THIS.....

BUT BE CAREFUL IN THESE TYPE OF CASES....... MANY A TIMES ARTICLES DO THIS AND GET THEMSELVES IN TROUBLE.......

BUT IT IS ALLOWED... ICAI WILL NOT CM AND CHECK WHETHER U R WORKING AT THE SAME OFFICE IN WHICH U R REGISTERED OR NOT....

Yahh Not to warry I m one of the Example of this......... However, Collect basic information about your Principal..It may help you ..otherwise no need to worry for your Query..

You will be for all official records the Article Assistant of the second person who will accommodate you as his article as you said the first firm does not have any vacancy. 

It is important for you to understand that this is a tacit understanding between the firm and the prospective CA to take you for article-ship training. However, on the other side if there arises some unforeseen events that lead to difference of opinion between those two, you will be the sufferer either ways. I am not dissuading but just saying in case if there were to be another twist in your career, you never know, so be safe and wise in taking a right decision.
