But as the nature of business is completely different from each other I suggest to apply for 2nd registration

You can add your second firm to the same GST number as an additional trade name with different HSN codes than the first, if both the firms are in the same state and are not registered under the GST Composition Scheme12. This is called the concept of vertical business in GST12. You can also choose to obtain separate GST registrations for each firm if you want to manage them independently12.

To add your second firm to the same GST number, you need to log in to the GST portal and select the option “Amendment of Registration Non-Core Fields” from the Registration Tab. Then, you need to select the option “Additional Places of Business” from the given Non-Core Fields and enter the details of your second firm

What if the proprietorship is under composition scheme and wants to add additional trade name and wants to supply a different nature of product?

Is being under composition a problem in this case?

 

Yes you can add different business verticals under single GST registration and have different Trade Names.
