Quick Summary
This discussion explores eligibility for the 80GG deduction on rent paid. The user is seeking clarification on whether they can claim this deduction despite owning a house in their hometown where their parents reside. The core issue revolves around the proviso to Section 80GG, which states that an assessee cannot claim the deduction if they own a self-occupied property elsewhere. The discussion aims to clarify if owning a property occupied by parents disqualifies the user from claiming rent paid for their current accommodation.

I think 80GG might be claimed as you're not staying in the built in house qs your parents are staying there
But as per second proviso to Sec80GG it says that you should not claim if you have self occupied property!
