09 July 2012I am providing business auxilliary services but my income is below the threshold limit. I am also receiving a rental income, both incomes put together cross Rs.10 lakh per annum. Also my premises have been rented to an educational institution. Could you please guide me if I have to pay service tax. Thank you.

The limit for computation of service is the overall limit and not income wise......
therefore service tax would be leviable on the total income taken togethor

Thank you. Could you please also clarify if service tax is applicable on rent income if the premises have been leased to a educational institution. I earlier read somewhere that it is not applicable. Is that right ?
