hi friends
is their anyone who doesnot like to become a leader?probably not!but now the question arises,do u have the traits/qualities to become a leader?
Ofcourse to lead someteam is not a child's play.I would like to share some qualities which a leader should have

1)intelligence :they should have somewhat higher level of intelligence than their followers.
2)U should b perfect in all the work u do!U should lead with an example. If u set an eg then there are more chances that ur followers too give their 100%!

3)He should have the courage to accept the responsibilty for the consequences of any steps he takes!

4)self-confidence:he should b confident enough to take some important and critical decisions

5)he should not be biased to anyone!

6) he should listen to his follower's advice and ideas, and if found suitable should implement them!

these are some but imp features of leadership!
bye

Sir,

I contradict to the above ideas.

If you are writing about intelligence in leaders, I would like to clarify that its not the IQ, but its the emotional intelligence thats important.

People like bill gates, warren buffet, dhirubhai ambani, micheal dell, lakshmi mittal etc are having followers who are double-triple-quadruple graduates; they have employees working under them who are CA rankers, IIM students, CS, ICWA rankers, Actuaries, and some of the students having many of these qualifications togethar. Thus, in sense of IQ we have much more intelligent people than Mr. Buffet, Mr. Gates, Mr. Dhirubhai, Mr. Lakshmi Mittal.

A leader may not necessarily be having more IQ than his followers, infact most of the above mentioned people have poor IQ.

I appreciate your post, however, your point on IQ does't make any sense to me.

Dear Krunal,

Barring some exceptions...if YOU or I want to be Leader than these points will guide you to your destination. You are right in thinking that abovementioned persons are great leaders but also think, what characteristic has achieved tham great success..

But i want you to keep exceptions aside...a common people could be a great leader if he/she adopts any/all of the abovementioned characteristics...

They are a guide who takes you to your destination..

So i think some persons have that qualities in born and for many persons it takes years to develope....

Waiting for your replies...

Sir,

Exceptions could be one or two not thousands..

In case of Corporate leaders, see the business tycoons..

Do you feel that Mr. Bill Gates, Mr. Buffet are the most intelligent persons? Do you feel that the Ambani's and Tatas are ppl with highest IQ?

Dont just consider the names i mentioned, but you may go ahead and consider the CEOs and CFOs of all the fortune 500 companies

And now ask yourself, whether these people have an IQ level higher than all the people like the CA rankers, IIM and IIT passouts, Harvard passouts who work under them? Ask yourself, whether these people are unbiased? I dont think so.

I do agree that they all must be courageous, self confident...etc but we have many courageous and self confident people? What has made all these CEOs and CFOs of all the fortune 500 exceptional? I have a post on this topic which you may go through -

A common person like you and me can become a leader as soon as we start believing in ourselves. We can become leaders as soon as we decide to be out of our comfort zones.

Regarding the point you mentioned about follower's...Its difficult to comment...I think to get more clarity on this point you should read the Harvard Business Review December 2007 issue.....the title of the article is "What every leader needs to know about his followers".

Im sure that if you read the Harvard Business Review regularly.....you will appreciate that even those people have done a lot of studies/research into the topics of Leadership, Management, Ethics, CSR, Governance etc. They have good articles and case studies.

One of such articles on Emotional Intelligence is attached hereby for your reference. I hope you find it useful and it helps you understand my points.

Person who possesses leadership skills not necessorily be a very successful person...may it take time But Success would come to their way...one day...

"Exceptions could be one or two not thousands" good point but my dear friend When you compare it with population the Ratio would not be even 1%..So it can be Exception only...

Furhter dont forget that "Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other" I mean to say

Leadership is the challenge to be something more than average.

Successful leadership is not about being tough or soft, sensitive or assertive, but about a set of attributes. First and foremost is character

Thanks Folks...It is really an inspiring articles...Thanx Again...

I request..Post such type of post regularly..

good one...

i agree with Apurva

Prakash Sir,

I agree to what you say this time -

"Leadership is the challenge to be something more than average.

Successful leadership is not about being tough or soft, sensitive or assertive, but about a set of attributes. First and foremost is character"

However, i do strongly feel that IQ, Formal Education do not have much relevance to success or leadership.

Knowledge doesn't necessarily mean writing the answers to a few questions without seeing the book (this is what we say is an exam).

Knowledge comes only out of experience - Swami Vivekenanda.
