Dear All, My friend has received a notice under section 143(2) for the return filed on 30-7-2010 for assessment year 2010-11. The notice is received on 27-October 2012 but dated 23-Oct 2012. Is the same valid? If yes, why the such notices are sent after a gap of almost 2 years?

Since the notice can be issue any time before the end of 6 month from the end of financial year in which return is filed. so notice u/s 143(2) can be issue any time before 30th sept 2011.
Hence Notice served is invalid.
