hi everyone,
I am Abhay Patil a recently qualified Cost Accountant.
As a qualified CMA I have interest in Indirect tax field.
So shall I work under any practicing professional for few years or shall I try for a job in any company which gives me a role in Indirect tax department? For further practice what is suitable? What is the initial salary I can expect in both the options.
Your suggestions will be very useful.

Abhay I'll suggest u to first make some practice under a good Tax based firm, and get ur base for the subject, and after getting sufficient knowledge, u may start ur own practice as an Indirect Tax Professional. In Job u will not get as good knowledge as a professional firm can give u. So try ur luck in any Big 4, and after that start as a Tax professional. Regarding Salary truly saying a professional firm will not offer u a salary which a Corporate world can, but u can get knowledge which the Corporate's can't give u. So if u have financial backup, and good channels(which will help u in getting business), then go for Practice, otherwise u can search for corporates.

Exactly cleared my doubt. Will be trying one of the big 4 but also trying for some consultants locally..at this point money is not the first priority, learning is the most important thing.Thank you very for your advice.

U r Welcome dear. Abhay please dont mind but u r a qualified CMA, so I'll suggest not to go for local consultants, U'll easily get selected in any big 4. Coz at local consultants u'll not get to learn so much things which a big 4 firm deal with. If not for big 4 at least select some mid size firms, they also have good quality of work.

okay..thank you. Will try for big 4 first and if not will search for mid size firms. Can you suggest some of the mid size firms if any, so that I can get an idea to search such firms?
