The book is a veritable commentary on the law of copyright in India as enacted in the Copyright Act, 1957 amended from time to time to keep in harmony with International conventions and treaties in the field of copyrights It contains 27 topic oriented chapters.

  • The Introductory chapter traces the history of the copyright law preceding the enactment of Copyright Act, 1957 , and deals with scheme of the Act , its objects and features and purpose , explaining briefly amendments in 1983, 1984, 1994, 1999 , 2012 and 2021;
  • Chapter 2 deals with concept of copyright as subsisting not in ideas but in the material form in which the ideas are translated;
  • Chapters 3 to 6 deal with the material provisions of copyright law as contained under Chapter III of the Copyright Act, viz., works in which copyright subsists; what copyright means as exclusive right to do or authorising doing acts in case of literary, dramatic, musical and artistic works as also the relating concept of "exhaustive doctrine" and the rights in respect of cinematograph films and sound recordings
  • Chapter 7 deals with ownership of copyright;
  • Chapter 8 deals with assignment, transmission and relinquishment of copyright;
  • Chapter 9 deals with compulsory and statutory licencing ;
  • Chapters 10 to 14 deal with copyright society , its registration, tariff scheme, administration of rights of owner, authors control over it, its submission of returns and reports to Registrar;
  • Chapter 15 deals with rights of Broadcasting Organisation and of Performers
  • Chapter 16 deals with International Copyright;
  • Chapter 17 deals with registration of copyright, indexes, rectification of and correction of entries in the Register ;
  • Chapters 18 to 21 deal with as what constitutes an infringement of copyright, groundless threat, remedies by way of injunction , account for profit and damages , penalties and prosecution
  • Chapter 22 to 24 deal with offences by company, cognisance of offence , quashing of criminal proceedings;
  • Chapter 25 deals with appeal;
  • Chapter 26 deals with powers of Registrar;
  • Chapter 27 deals with protection of action taken in good faith.
