Tds on handling charges

29 March 2012 Sir,

We receive combine bills of Railway Freight & Handling Charges. If we consider for TDS on handling charges then amount is less threshhold limit. But if the entire bill amount consider then it cross the threshhold limit. Please suggest whether we should deduct TDS or nor.

29 March 2012 TDS required to be deducted on total amount. Section 194C will be applicable.

29 March 2012 Tax has to be deducted on entire amount of bill.
However you can demand separate bills for handling charges and for reimbursement of railway freight in which your are not required to deduct any tax if the handling charges are below threshold limit.
