19 June 2013 i want to know whether tds on transport hiring charges is deductiable by the educational institutions..

19 June 2013 If the said charge is paid for carrying on students , TDS is deductible U/s 194C.

19 June 2013 If it is for school bus

in my opinion,

1)if bus on hire is taken for a specified period, with out driver, it will come under definition of 194I and tds @ 2% can be deducted.

2)if bus taken hire with driver and payment is on basis of no. of trips it can be deducted under section 194C @ 2%/1% can be deducted
