Taxability on family pension and salary

This query is : Resolved

26 July 2016 My mother is a widow and is 59 years old getting family pension. She gets pension after the sudden death of my father who was a pensioner retired from State Electricity board employment. He passed away in Jan 2015. The pension per month comes to around Rs. 28000/-. My mother is also salaried and employed in state government services earning Rs 25000/-. She is about to file income tax returns and we are unable to understand the taxability on her salary plus family pension. The bank disbursing the pension has also not deducted any TDS. Kindly guide in this regard.

27 July 2016 Mother has to declare family pension in her return of income under the head 'income from other sources' subject to deduction of Rs. 15,000 u/s.57(iia).

27 July 2016 Thanku sir for ur reply. That means monthly pension 28000-15000 = 13000 *12 = 156000 has to be shown as income from other sources?

27 July 2016 No. (28000 x 12) -15000

28 July 2016 Whether this rule is applicable to commuted family pension also?
