28 May 2017 the company is forcing you to take registration so that you can pass on the credit to your customers of excise paid invoicesreceived by you.

25 July 2025 Here's a clear explanation on registering as a **Second Stage Dealer** under Excise for your situation:

---

### What is a Second Stage Dealer under Excise?

* A **Second Stage Dealer** is a person who buys excisable goods from a manufacturer or first stage dealer and sells them to another dealer or customer without removing them from the place of business or manufacturing unit.
* They usually hold stock and pass on the **excise duty credit** to the next party in the chain.

---

### Do You Need to Register as a Second Stage Dealer?

* If you are a **distributor of white goods** (which are excisable goods), your **company may want you to register as a second stage dealer** so that you can avail and pass on the **CENVAT credit** on excise duty.
* This registration is important because it legally authorizes you to receive excise paid goods and pass on the credit to your buyers, enabling smoother input credit flow.
* Without this registration, your customers may not be able to claim credit on excise duty properly, which could affect the supply chain.

---

### Link Between Excise and Sales Tax Registration

* Sales Tax (or VAT) and Excise registrations are **separate**.
* The Sales Tax Department **does not automatically link or provide excise registration**.
* You need to apply separately for excise registration as a second stage dealer if required.

---

### Implications of Registering as a Second Stage Dealer

* **Pros:**

* You can legally pass on excise credit to customers.
* Helps your company maintain a smooth credit chain.

* **Cons:**

* Additional compliance and filing requirements under the Central Excise Act.
* Record keeping and periodic returns filing (monthly/quarterly).
* Possible inspections.

---

### Summary Advice:

* If your company insists and you want to maintain good business relations and smooth credit flow, it’s advisable to register as a second stage dealer under excise.
* Understand and prepare for the compliance obligations that come with this registration.
* If unsure, consult a tax professional to guide you through registration and compliance.

If you want, I can help draft a checklist or guide on the registration and compliance process for second stage dealers under excise. Would you like that?
