Seafarer income tax return

This query is : Resolved

31 January 2016 Sir
I am a merchant navy officer , completed NRI status. I want to know which form to be used for efiling and which folder's which column to be filled for rebate .

31 January 2016 You may file in ITR2. If you do not have any foreign assets, you may file ITR2A.
Regarding rebate, what kind of rebate you are looking for please specify.

31 January 2016 I tried ITR-2, but when i fill my salary. it is calculating as taxable income. But i suppose i am exempted as i have completed my NRI status.

31 January 2016 If you are a non-resident, you have to include in your return of income only taxable incomes in India.

31 January 2016 In salary column i filled up my 8 months salary . I tried ITR- 2A also. Exactly where to input my salary amount for showing it as non taxable income.

31 January 2016 Not necessary to include your foreign income in Indian Income Tax Return, if you are a non-resident in that year. When the scope of your foreign income is not covered in India for taxation, there is no question of exemption separately. You neither include income in your return nor take exemption.

26 January 2017 I assume you have not rendered services for those 8 months in Indian waters. If yes, then it qualifies as indian income and is taxable irrespective of the fact that your tax status for the year is NRI. Please check.

20 May 2017 Please go through this circular....may be useful to you.
