One bank employee get medical reimbursement for the treat ment of his wife for cerebral hemerage done in aprivate hospital. But the bank deducted tds on that medical reimbursement amount. whether medical reimbursement is taxable or not?

whether deduction can be claimed for medical treatment of cerebral hemerage under chapter VI A under section 80DD, 80DDB, 80 U

04 November 2011 According to Income Tax Act, Medical Reimbursement of Medical expenses for expenses incurred in a Pvt hospital in excess of Rs15,000 are taxable.
The relevant section to claim deductions is Sec 80DDB.
If the medical expenses are reimbursed, then benefit of Sec 80DDB can't be availed.

I hope this clarifies your doubt.
