04 October 2013 I Want to know is late filing fees mandatory (Tax deducted at source) . can the late filing fees be waived off by the assessing officer

04 October 2013 Levy u/s 234E of the Income Tax Act, 1961 is a statutory levy and cannot be waived.

04 October 2013 Not sure if any reduction is possible. The penalty is Rs 200 per day subject to Maximum of TDS amount involved.

Also ensure selection of proper Head while payment of penalty so that you dont receive notice of non receipt of amount.
