Dear sir/mam
today we recived a notice from it department in my wifes name, for a transaction made in 2013, my father sold some property in 2011 and as per indexed cost the ammount he recieved was not taxable. but he mentioned it in his income tax return.
then he bougt a plot in 2013 in his daughter in laws name and paid money from the proceeding of the property earlier sold in 2011, now today we recieved a notice from it department title "query on transaction for financial year 13-14" my father is no more now, he passed away in 2014, now what should i do as i dont have any proof that my father had made the payment and registered the plot in my wifes name, although the cost of plot purchased is only 25% of the property sold in 2011.. also my wife dont have pan card.

they have asked for following documents also
pan card copy if available
copy of land agreement
details of account if available
(she dont have any personal account, she is a joint account holder with me) do i need to furnish the details of account also?
if i reply with a letter will that be enough? because i am living outside india and my wife is in india, she cannot go alone to it office.

Notice is in the name of wife. So let her go and submit the documents. Dont worry much about the notice. Ignorance of LAW at times may prove to be beneficial. She can explain the same in her language.
