Can 80d be claimed by 2 son for father's health insurance?

17 November 2012 Dear Expert,

Kindly help me in the following query.

I just want to, is it possible to claim 80D for the premium paid for senior citizen father health insurance where 2 of the son have taken health insurance for father and they are paying the premiums separately.

1st Son pays approx 16k premium for 4Lacs cover from HDFC General Health Insurance.
2nd Son pays approx 21k premium for 5.5Lac cover from ICICI Lombard.

Can they claim 80D deduction from their respective employer. Here both the Sons work in the same company.

Also, what happens if they would have worked in two different company?

Section 80 D deduction is applicable for teh dependednt parents. Hence based on that you calim the deduction u/s 80 D of the Income tax Act 1961

18 November 2012 Thank you Gayathri. So you mean to say both the son can claim 80d and it doesn't matter whether they work with same employer or different employers. Right?
