Can anybody clarifiy as what is the the outer limit of rebate u/s 80 d for instance …can a individual claim a deduction upto Rs.15000 for self & spouses & addtionally Rs20000 for dependent parents who are senior citizens.

from the assessment Year 2008-09 deduction u/s 80D is as follows:

1. Medical insurance Premium paid to the maximum of Rs. 15000 (or Rs. 20000 if insured person is senior citizen) in respect of the individual himself, spouse and dependant children of individual

AND

2.Medical insurance Premium paid to the maximum of Rs. 15000 (or Rs. 20000 if insured person is senior citizen) in respect of parents of individual.


in Gist The deduction is 15000( or Rs. 20000) for parents and Rs. 15000 (Rs.20000) for other relative.
