Relevance of attempts in ca.

Hello everyone,as we all know ca is not a cake walk. Moreover, with fluctuating passing percentage it's not easy to clear exams in one go and as usual, many of us get caught in vicious circle of failure and reappear. Is it worthwhile to continue ca after multiple attempts? does attempts in ca matter? please share your views.

First clear your CA examination, the question of number of attempts will matter, if you are applying for Big 4 or other organizations at the entry level. Once, you have good knowledge in work over a period of time, even you can get into Big 4 or other Organizations.

Come out of this myth about number of attempts, if you are a good performer both in interview and job, you will get lucrative offers. Important for you is not to break too much of your head thinking about attempts, just focus on examination and clear it at the earliest.

Best of luck.

CA is not a cakewalk to pass in one or two attempts but companies prefer lesser attempts. Highly contradictory in itself, don't you think? But don't you think if one would think it's not worthwhile to pursue CA after multiple attempts, then one would not even enrol for CA course. CA is not all about attempts. Have you ever seen on what basis companies hire?Let me enlighten you-First,your academic background (10th,12th and college percentile).Second, professional qualification(CA,MBAetc). In CA's case,Place of Articleship firm and profile.Third, most importantly your work experience in related industry.Apart from that, multitude of soft skills, IT skills viz MS-office,people management and so on.First time passouts are not necessarily creme of the crop.

@ sathish M : thanks for sharing your views sir :)

@ the viper : thanks for sharing your views sir :)

I agree with both of you but what about those who take multiple attempts to clear Ipcc level? Its not their fault if they are not able to crack their exams in one go. Because of not being able to meet their expectations, they start losing their hope and confidence too. Then, that student will work in middle or small firm. He/she will not get the experience that he/she could have gained if they have done their articleship in big4s.

Continuing my previous reply, I'd like to add that Companies generally prefer Metros for Articleship training.First,I would like to know what kind of experience you are writing about in Big 4?I mean which work profile, be specific.

Your articleship training would mean a lot till your first employment, once after your first job the subsequent movement depends on your individual effectiveness, dont think much about the Big 4 articleship. Overall the training and the learning you get from either Big 4 or the other firms are the same, its just your interest to learn things. .

All the best for the exams, do well, dont lose the confidence its just a small pitfall, still a long way to go.

first of all, sorry for the delay.

@ prashant : I was just talking about the kind of exposure they get in big 4. And,thanks for sharing your views sir. :)

@ CA Indira : Thanks for sharing your views ma'am. :)

@ Annu:Hey,Annu.I asked you bcoz I wanted to contradict your own answer.I have seen CAs (not literally) on CCI commenting that they entirely changed their work profile pursued in Big4 after becoming CA.One went into Corporate Finance and the other into investment banking. Can u believe that?3yrs of training went down the drain. So Big 4 tag doesn't help always. The other one did mention that he landed an interview with big 4 bcoz of his past but he had to start from scratch. How?He did certificate course from Wall Street School. He also said that one needs to be a Top tier b-school product or have deal experience to get into i-banking.Now,You must be thinking at least he went into big corporates, faced big ticket clients, got networking, learnt etiquettes. My answer would (s)he must have had in him already. Those skills got groomed further. Anyway,Any firm doesn't hire you for what benefit it would bestow upon u,it'll hire for the benefit it will get.Let me give u a situation: You want to do Articleship. How many firms will u be visiting in person to drop your resume? 10,20,30.I can't make to 20.That's leadership skills. How you lead yourself. The other day I wanted to call one of the big 4 Advisory partners(phone no. are on site)to know what would they require in a potential CA to work in Corporate Finance.I couldn't work up the courage to call. That's called  being self starter  proactive one.Do you think I'll get hired?will call one day though.

Coming to your 2nd query, I am also taking multiple attempts to clear IPCC. I have not lost hope.In contrast,I'm ecstatic.Earlier my thinking was narrow, thought of doing Tax,Audit but now Corporate Finance. Improved my vocab, idioms by reading papers(Telegraph is best)when I wasn't studying.I love watching english movies.I read international author books on AS,ITSM,SA.They changed my outlook. will join CA firm, gimme a break.Firm won't let you neither study nor enjoy if you aren't hitting the books.

Admittedly, try to pass CA within 30 yrs of age for Banking and Govt jobs. For other jobs, work experience is the  be-all and end-all.

@ prashant : Firstly, I would like to say I like your spirit. I've seen many students leaving ca if they get failed after 2 -3 attempts. Well, that's their call. But,it takes a courage to pursue your goal after repeated attempts. We are in the same boat I guess!
Secondly, thank you for clarifying my doubt regarding articleship in big4s. I'd love to know more! :)

Hey Annu I have come to know why one should never drop CA even after multiple attempts a couple of days ago.Because CA or no CA,the job sector in industry not firms will always remain bleak.Mark my words.Reason:CAs know nothing about commercial awareness apart from soft skills obviously.Google it.
Could you please explain it to me more clearly as I didn't get you.
I'm saying about importance of attempts.Attempts don't matter whether you pass in first or multiple attempts bcoz you are not going to get a job in industry. So one should complete CA without worrying about attempts.

Reason: Few days ago,I came to know that what CA books teaches us is not relevant in industry but only pertinent for public practice. That explains why barely 25% CAs get placed that also after shortlisting.ICAI doesn't believe in all-round development of it's students.Obviously soft skills are given no importance.Industry want a person who knows how to make a business grow. They want commercial awareness most importantly. Google the term to know more.So one should not worry about passing but only for grooming
Nicely explained! thanks Prashant. By the way, from where do you get all these info?
I get these info. because of law of attraction. When u want something, you keep thinking about it,looking for it unless you run into it.Remember Om Shanti Om dialogue- aisi shajis ki hai ki zarre ne milane ki koshish ki hai.Actually it's a rip-off version of John Lennon quote.Same thing.

I keep on exploring things.I keep visiting foreign Accounting body websites.ACCA,CIMA,ICAEW you name it.I keep on scavenging through resourceful articles. I've even visited Institute of CA of Zimbabwe. There I found the word aegrotat.I even read Student magazine of ACCA,CIMA on their sites.CA Aus app acuity bcoz Accounting profession is universal. You have to know what's happening in outside world.

I was finding difficulty in studying AS from complicated Study text. I kept on looking how to crack it bcoz Parveen Sharma notes were only Q&A.I found the most easy book Diploma in IFRS by ACCA.This is law of attraction. Even found easy SA book.yet to buy though.

In the course of exploring sites,I've noted various things. will write an article on that after CA exams.
Thats great! and sure,do write an article on it. It'll be really helpful.
