Registration query

If person has not cross the limit of Rs. 20 lakh as his turnover in preceding year
but however he hold Service tax registration as per old requirement.

Is he liable to take GST registration. ?

Yes...it is mandatory to get register under GST.. however after that you can apply for cancellation of registration...

No he is is not liable to register under GST.

He is compulsorily required to register himself for GST under section 22(2) of the CGST Act.

If your turnover does not exceed 20 lakhs then registration can be cancelled subsequently. However you have to register now as you were holding Service Tax Registration.
