Service tax is fast expanding area. With the growing share of service sector in GDP of India, this is bound to throw ample opportuniites of employment to professional. I am presently handling Indirect taxes including Service tax and VAT. I have handled Excise, Customs, Income tax as well. There is ample scope if you choose this field. Here you would come across excise laws as well which are also appliatable to service sector. However, you may try to add more areas in of indirect taxation like Customs, and VAT.
Concluding my view, You have a very promissing career ahead if you choose service tax as a career.

Further once you are familiar with Service tax laws, you can secure job in Big 4 and very good MNC. The provisions of service tax are based on principals accepted internationally.
Service Tax is a growing area and soon you will find it, that it is running with the greater pace like direct taxes. Chartered should explore this new field, in fact it is no longer new now. I advise fresher to show their interest in Service tax related matters.
