Millers minerals co.manufactures a product that requires the use of a considerabla amount of natural gas to heat it to a desired temperature.the process requires a constant level of heat, so the furnances are maintainedat a set temperaturefor 24 hours a day. Although units are not continuously processed, mgtdesires that VCbe charged directly to theproduct and the FC to the factory OH.

1. Seperate the Variable and fixed element, using high low method

2. VC to be charged to the product

3. FC to be charged to the factory OH

change in qty  = 2400 - 2300  = 100 units

change in cost = 4400 -4300 = Rs. 100

therefore VC = Re. 1 per unit

4400 = FC + VC

FC = 4400 - 2400

= 2000

VC=0.95/unit FC=2120 -------------------- Solve, 1400x+y=3450 and 2400x+y=4400, simultaneously. x is variable cost/unit and y is fixed cost. FC to be charged=25440 VC=22660

how u calculated VC of rs. 0.95/unit. Can u plz explain me in deatil.

FC to be charged=25440
VC=22660

1400 x + y = 3450     ----> eqn (1)

2400 x + y = 4400     ----> eqn (2)

 

(2) - (1) gives

1000 x = 950

therefore x = 0.95

put x= .95 in1400 x + y = 3450

we get 1330 + y = 3450

therefore y = 3450 - 1330 = 2120
