Please guide for gst on selling books on own website

161 views 1 replies

I am bit confused whether I am liable to pay GST or not. I have a book priced at 300 rs which I will sell online directly from my own website and not any other e-commerce company, It takes 200 rs inclusive of GST to print and ship the books to customer. Now on the balance 100 rs which is my margin. Do I need to pay 18 rs as GST . Some are saying for online business GST on entire selling price is compulsary in which case rs 18 will be deducted from 100. and I will be left with Rs 72 Margin. And If  income (ie margin)  is above 250000 then there will be seperate income tax on it. In which case I feel I am being double taxed. Or as some have suggested there is no GST for selling books at all (Both Offlne or Online)

Please guide , I am a bit confused.

In case of printed books falling under HSN code 4901 or 4903, the same are exempted under GST. Thus, in your case if your books fall under any of the above mentioned HSN then no need to pay GST on sale of such books even though you are a E-commerce operator.
