Pan card detail correction

Greetings

One of my friends who has been living in India since the past 10 years (He is a Canadian Citizen) by accident created a pan card under the Indian Nationals form and not the new form for Foreign Nationals (Form 49AA).

The pan card is created by now I wish to know how will this get amended?

Does he have to surrender the pan card and fill for a new one?

or

Can it be amended directly ?

Or if there's any other way of doing it please let me know, it's urgent. Thanks in advance.
