Outstanding it demand

How to respond to outstanding tax demand for notice u/s 245 issued.The tax demand of Rs 5096/- and Rs 11868/- is being shown for AY 2005-06 and 2006-07 u/s 143(1) with DIN.However never received any such notice,morever the AY are about 10 years old for which records are also not available.Pl suggest how to respond or to just ignore,however it appeared and noticed by me yesterday only on incometax website.

If you dont have records go to IT Office where you deposited these and try to get a copy. Else see your bank records and try to see how much TDS was done, also from other sources. Try to calculate and see if their demand is correct. If you work, chec your form 16 from employer also. IMHO, There is no reason why you should be discarding IT return records, these are few page returns and you should keep all records. Accordingly you have to reply to them if you accept or reject the demand.
