Objective of levy entry tax

Can any one explain me whats objective of leving Entry tax on goods and whats the procedure to levy?

Hi,

Entry tax is paid on the goods brought from outside the state. The procedure differes from state to state but u can claim entry tax paid with vat. The rate of tax differes from state to state, product to product.

The objective is to minimise the revenue loss to the state governement.
