New trader to apply for vat or gst number ?

Hello Sir, Can you please tell new traders who did not have VAT number till now need to apply for VAT number in their State or GST number or both ?

GST still not applicable. So before implementation of GST you are required to register for VAT &/or Service Tax, whichever applicable.

Hello Sir, If we register for VAT now, will it become dis-functional after GST ? I think it is only matter of months now

It will be transferred to GST registration. If you are liable for registration under VAT act now, you must. You cannot escape. All the registered dealers under VAT along with service tax, excise etc. registered entities will be automatically migrated to PAN based GST assessee.
